Take Your Time. Breathe. Repeat.

We live in a world that revolves around instant gratification.  Texting, emails, social media, Starbucks, theres even an app that brings you gas so that you don’t have to go to the gas station….Cray.  All of these things save time and help us get what we need fast.  Don’t get me wrong, I think all of these things are amazing!  But as creatives that are trying so hard to turn our passion into a career, we tend to get so impatient.  We “hustle” so hard that we become blind to the time that we’ve wasted and start to get discouraged that we’re not where we want to be in life right this second.  Our fast food mentality makes us forget how far we’ve come.  We forget to savor the journey and forget where we came from and where we’ve been.  We forget to thank friends and family that have been there since day one, supporting us every single step of the way.  We forget that good things truly do take time.  I am so guilty of this and will be the first to say that I spend way too much time comparing my journey to other’s and complaining that I’m not exactly where I want to be in life.  While a future living in Orange County closer to my girlfriend and being booked all year round sounds amazingly ideal, I need to take a second to chill out and remember how blessed I am right now in this moment.  I’ve been placed in this exact spot for a specific reason.  Yes, our future should definitely be our fuel, but keep in mind that in any journey there are going to be pit stops and set backs along the way.  I, you, WE will definitely get to our goal.  Keep working hard.  But please.

Take your time.

Breathe.

Repeat.

Great post Justin!!!!! This is something I’ve been working on lately too! Patience. Understanding. Learning. Staying positive. Remembering to live my life too instead of always working!!!!

THIS. This is exactly what I needed to hear today. I’ve spent all week rambling to my closest loved ones about how UNHAPPY I am because I’m “not where I feel I should be” instead of enjoying moments and positive conversations with them. My entire life has become about how to be a “better” creative, when it should be about how to enjoy where I’m at in my journey. Thank you SO much for this reminder to take my time… breathe… and repeat… I’ve got a lot of thinking to do this weekend! xo

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT Justin

I've always been drawn to all things creative, but didn't pick up a camera until my senior year in high school to document a trip my friends and I were taking to San Francisco.  I had no idea how to correctly work my camera, but instantly fell in love with the concept of capturing moments in an artistic way.  I became obsessed with photographing anything and anyone willing to get in front of my lens.  Still lifes, landscapes, pets, people.  People.  What started out as a passion for photography quickly turned into a passion for people and the love they share.  I can't put words to the feeling of capturing fleeting moments, celebratory tears, warm embraces,  or loving glances.  What I can say is how incredibly fulfilling photographing weddings all over the west coast for the past twelve  years has been.  I'm thrilled to have you here and can't wait to work with you!
